Yesterday was the hottest day in California I think since last december. We stayed indoors taking rest after the vigorous shopping we did on Saturday :) . In the evening we went out for our weekly grocery shopping and then for a short drive. At around 7.30 in the evening, the sun was bright as if it was still 5 pm in the evening and I didnt feel like cooking dinner yet. It was so hot and stuffy inside the house especially after coming from outdoors!! Then I decided to cook something that will fill us up and cool us down. I thought about the Indian summers and suddenly Falooda came to my mind. Yummy, delicious and cooling!!
I got introduced to this delicious dessert in Hyderabad during one of our office team lunches. I didnt like the Falooda that much the first time I tasted it. Perhaps the way the restaurant prepared the falooda, was not to my taste may be.. Last year I ate a lot of faloodas from the street vendors with my room mate which tasted awesome (Street food is really the best !!! ) and then fell in love with the dish so much that I had to prepare it at home for summer this year. Check out the recipe..
Strawberry Falooda:
Prep Time: 10 - 15 min
Cook Time: 15 - 20 min
Ingredients:
1/4 cup Sabja or Tukmaria or Basil seeds
1/2 cup Roasted Vermicelli
5 - 6 Strawberries
3 - 6 Tbsp Sugar
Vanilla Icecream
Rooh Afza
Milk
Prepping:
Step 1: In a glass, pour around 1/4 cup Rooh Afza and add 3/4 cup Milk. Mix well and Chill it in the fridge till its used.
Step 2: Soak Tukmaria seeds in water for 10 - 15 min. Tukmaria seeds absorb water and become swollen. Dont worry about the quantity of water that you are adding. You can add more water than required also. Tukmaria seeds absorb water as it needs only and the remaining can be drained.
Step 3: Wash the strawberries, then using a wet tissue, wipe the strawberries nicely. Cut stawberries into slices and add sugar to it. Let the strawberries rest for 10 min.
Method of Preparing:
Step 1:
In a pan, add 2 cups of Milk and let it boil. Once boiled add the required quantity of sugar for sweetness. Then add roasted vermicelli and mix. Once the vermicelli becomes soft, switch off. This takes around 10 - 15min.
Step 2:
Now let us assemble the falooda.
Note: Every component needed for Falooda can be prepared early and assembled when needed.
